The EU RoHS Directive (2002/95/EC), the EU Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment, is a mandatory standard established by the EU legislation and was officially implemented on July 1, 2006. It is to eliminate lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls and polybrominated diphenyl ethers in electrical and electronic products. On June 4, 2015, the European Union issued the Directive (EU) 2015/863 to amend 2011/65/EU (RoHS 2.0) to formally include four phthalates (DEHP, BBP, DBP, DIBP). In RoHS 2.0 Appendix II, there are restrictions on 10 types of controlled substances in electrical and electronic equipment.


RoHS 2.0 came into effect on July 21, 2011. The time for electronic and electrical equipment to meet ROHS 2.0 at the latest is: July 22, 2019.

RoHSThe RoHS Directive covers a wide range of products, covering almost all electronic, electrical, medical, communications, toys, security information and other products. It includes not only complete products, but also parts, raw materials and packages used in the production of complete machines. , related to the entire production chain. The directive lists the range of electrical and electronic equipment covered by the directive:

Products included in Annex I of the RoHS Directive:

The RoHS Directive does not apply to the following products:

1.Large household appliances
2. Small household appliances
3. Information technology and communication equipment
4. Consumer equipment
5. Lighting equipment
6. Power tools
7. Toys, leisure and sports equipment
8. Medical equipment
9. Monitoring and control equipment
10. Vending machine
11. Other electrical and electronic products not within the above categories

(a) weapons, munitions, war materials for special military purposes used to protect national security;
(b) design equipment that is sent into space;
(c) Equipment designed and to be installed on another device not covered by this Directive, only to be functional as part of the equipment and to be replaced by equipment of the same special design ;
(d) Large fixed industrial tools;
(e) large fixtures;
(f) a means of transport for persons or goods, excluding two-wheeled electric vehicles that have not been type-approved;
(g) Off-highway motor vehicles manufactured for the professional use;
(h) an active implanted medical device;
(i) Solar panels designed, assembled and installed by professionals to provide long-term energy for public, commercial, industrial and residential use in specific locations using sunlight;
(j) Specially designed for research and development based on business-to-business equipment

As of July 22, 2019, electronic and electrical equipment other than medical equipment and monitoring tools must be subject to this mandatory control. Member States should ensure that products placed on the market, including their use for repair, reuse, update of their functions or increase their capacity. The above materials shall not be included in the cables and parts. Wanwei reminds companies to respond early and ensure product compliance.
